      Description

      One issue with the new deblender is that sources not detected by the pipeline cause the detected footprints to grow in order to account for the flux. As a temporary fix for testing, DM-10549 uses all of the sources in a simulated catalog to separate problems with detection and problems with deblending, but it is likely that in real data there will always be some subset of objects that are missed.

      This ticket will implement a so-called "garbage collector", an extra source added to the list of peaks with an initial grey color following different constraints (ie. not monotonicity and symmetry but perhaps some other constraints about what it is allowed to collect). This should prevent some of the brighter undetected objects from expanding the size of detected footprints.

      Demonstrate that:

      • When enabled, the garbage collector doesn't cause problems when it's not needed;
      • The garbage collector does solve problems when it is needed.
