Line plot doesn't allow to select, zoom and filter data points

      Description

      In latest dev branch, when having a line plot, the selection box around an area of the line doesn't allow to zoom in, select or filter the line points.

      It looks to me that is a 'feature' of plotly that needs to be enabled. Because if one point is highlighted and is included in the selection box area, then i can filter/zoom or select all the points included in the box.

          My only concern here is that we think ahead to that someday we might have plot types where the edges of a plot are the primary entity, not the vertices.

          For instance, this might be true of a vector field plot.

          This has been fixed, and deployed in LSST and IRSA.
