At the Butler Use Case review in December there was an action on Gregory Dubois-Felsmann to:

communicate with DMSST to get use cases for preservation of old data and code.

It's not high on my priority list, and I think it may be best to just call this an operations problem. The problems involved in being able to use old data and old code are mostly not middleware problems, I think, and I don't see them driving major butler architecture changes today even if we might wish we had though harder about them earlier.
