Description
For the initial release of HiPS capability for LSST and IRSA Firefly, the (i)nformation button for HiPS image displays just brings up a tabular display of the key-value contents of the HiPS properties file.
This display could be considerably improved by making that button first bring up a basic property sheet constructed from selected elements of the properties file, formatted in a human-friendly way, and with URLs in the metadata turned into clickable links.
Most notably this would allow the full display of the obs_description field, which is generally too long for the table viewer used for the raw display we currently provide.
If the hips_initial_xxx values are present, the standard Firefly coordinate-display routine should be used to allow coordinate conversions and copy-paste of the coordinates.
For HiPS cubes, the hips_cube_xxx and data_cube_xxx values should be used to generate a human-readable display of the range and number of 3rd-coordinate values available in the cube.
It may be useful to consider the display or linkage of additional metadata beyond what is in the properties file. For instance, it might include a UI element to control the display of the associated MOC for a HiPS map.
This property sheet can then have a button to bring up the raw key-value table viewer.
In the raw viewer we should make all URLs clickable, e.g., bib_reference_url, obs_copyright_url, hips_service_url[0-9]*, hips_progenitor_url. (This may be something to put in a separate ticket.)
This is not urgent and may be scheduled for a post-F18 release depending on relative priorities.
