            Also there seem to be some strange commits at the start of the history on this ticket that seem to be part of previous attempts to numpydoc the package or were produced by some automated program. Colin Slater or John Swinbank could you take a look at them for me, please?

            Those commits are from David Staker. The git log shows them properly; don't know why github is showing something weird.
