            "tables" package does not exist in conda, but it does exist in PyPI, latest version 3.4.4.

            I would think so, naming is quite confusing, see for instance https://www.pytables.org/downloads.html  The project is called PyTables, but the module tables.... seemingly Michael Wood-Vasey is the expert.

            The change is very simple. 

            If one of you can review it so then the new package can be included in the env files update (DM-17684)

            I think the plan is to do a package uprev of the conda environment once 17.0 is safely out the door. This would lead to pytables being included automatically.
