Sometimes the AP pipeline aborts before trying to process any data (e.g., due to a version mismatch). However, this causes ap_verify to attempt to run metrics, which leads to further errors. Fix things so that:

• An absent repository does not cause a metrics failure.
• If possible, ap_verify can distinguish between a complete abort and a processing failure, and exit gracefully in the former case.
