      Description

Clarify if/how the project could provide filtered streams, e.g

      • Simple filters: RA/DEC, Magnitude, Spuriousness cuts?
      • Image-free streams of alert packets?
      • sources associated with past alerts?

and provide estimate of how much the stream volume is reduced by these options

Work is proceeding on this investigation at the draft (potential dmtn) document:

Early draft of the potential DMTN cleaned up and sent to Eric and Leanne for initial feedback.

A draft document containing a collection of scientific motivations for potential types of filtered streams that brokers might request currently lives at: https://github.com/lsst-dmsst/alert-options

To summarize: alerts-related scientific analyses might benefit from streams pre-filtered based on apparent magnitude, sky region, the existence of a DIAObject history, association with an SSObject or Object, and/or observational metadata such as ToO observing programs. (This document also contains the work related to DM-20298, which investigates the science drivers of the alerts' contents.)

Further investigations – including robust estimates for the bandwidth reduction offered by these pre-filtered streams – should be postponed until the set of full broker proposals has been received and reviewed. This ticket is being closed, as any future investigations into pre-filtering streams will be done under DM-20298 .
