    Description

When logging into LSP instances that do not use NCSA accounts for identity (e.g., the IDF / data.lsst.cloud instances), identity information is obtained from GitHub.  Some users choose not to allow GitHub to release their full names in association with their userids.  For such users, the identity display at the upper right corner of the suit/Firefly display currently reads "(null) (null)" where the personal name would normally be displayed.

Please, as a fallback, implement a display of the GitHub userid when personal name information is not available from GitHub.

To be clear, I have not verified that the name display does still work for users who do allow GitHub to expose their real name. That would be a quick test.

I allow GitHub to expose my real name and can confirm that my real name shows up correctly in the Portal Aspect on data.lsst.cloud.

Thanks. So I think with that in hand we can definitely wait for Gafaelfawr 2.0 before tackling any changes.

When this is updated, the focus should be on finding a way to obtain the "display name" for a user as a single item from the identity management system, without having the Portal in the business of handling separate parts of the name and having to take a stance on, e.g., first name/last name order.
