We should not be trying to install git at all. I thought this might have been intentionally left in "batch" mode but per Frossie Economou, this is just an oversite. I'm still confused as to why publishing a package doesn't put it into the current list.

In my defense I was asked to review this ticket and when I reviewed it the git changes had not been pushed (I see they have been now).

From my point of view this is fine.

I've also added a trivial travis config that tests with and without the -b (batch) flag.

The PR to add a warning about ~/.eups has been retracted due to various concerns raised as code comments.
