Description
In HSC-1272, Steve Bickerton [X] proposed an algorithm for detecting and masking satellite trails. This has undergone some review on HSC, but has never been incorporated into an HSC software or data release (and hence is not part of the "HSC port").
However: the algorithm is certainly relevant to LSST. Please convert it to work with the LSST stack.

That's right.
I've been playing around with the code in an effort to understand what it's doing. I think I'm ready now to refactor the code in an attempt to prepare it for inclusion in the LSST stack.

This has been superseded by the epic to incorporate a satellite detection algorithm DM-23746
The HSC side code is currently available in their meas_artifact package, which is not publicly available. John Swinbank will get this transferred to GitHub (either the HyperSuprime-Cam or lsst-dm projects should be fine for now, just to make sure it's accessible).
Steve Bickerton [X] has circulated a manuscript describing his algorithm to the HSC software group. John Swinbank will add it to this issue after checking that he doesn't object to it being more widely distributed.
