      Description

      One of the work packages for the DRP team in S15 is an overhaul of Footprint and associated classes. A design proposal is ready for review on this PR:

      You can find more information there (which is also where comments should go).

      There is a lot of content to absorb, so I'm proposing a 2-week review period to ensure everyone who is interested has a chance to look at it.

            There are two outstanding issues that still need to be resolved, but they're minor details, so I think it's appropriate to adopt this overall:

            • We need to see the actual code complexity involved in supporting the full range of functor "targets" proposed here, and possibly scale it back.
            • I'll debate Robert Lupton off-line about the pros and cons of having separate IDs for Footprints and Sources.
